What you will see: the 120 works and the artists
The exhibition covers less than 80 years of European painting, from the direct observation of nature to the dissolution of reality. It runs through nine chapters: from the Barbizon School and the Italian Macchiaioli, through Impressionism, the Hague School, Post-Impressionism and Divisionism, to Futurism, the return to order and abstraction.
- Realism and Impressionism: Courbet, Monet, Berthe Morisot, Pissarro, Renoir, Sisley, Degas
- Post-Impressionism: Gauguin, Van Gogh, Signac, Redon
- Early 20th century: Bonnard, Vuillard, Picasso, Kandinsky, Mondrian
- Italian painters: Fattori, Signorini, Pellizza da Volpedo, Segantini, Previati, Boldini, Boccioni, Carrà, Sironi
The lead image is Claude Monet’s “Poppy Field” (1881), from the Boijmans collection. Other works presented to the press include Kandinsky’s “Lyrical” (1911) and Boccioni’s “Noon. Factories at Porta Romana”.
In four rooms, the multisensory project “From lived nature to the inner landscape” adds sounds and scents: in the abstraction room, music by Arnold Schoenberg plays alongside Kandinsky.

You can buy online through Vivaticket, linked from palazzodiamanti.it, with a 1.50 euro booking fee. You pick a day and a time slot: with the 3:30 pm slot, for example, you enter between 3:30 and 4:29 pm.
The ticket office sells same-day tickets, but on busy days the queue may close early. An online ticket skips the desk, and at weekends I would always book ahead.
Large bags go in the free lockers. Guided tours for individuals run on Saturdays at 5:10 pm and on Sundays and holidays at 3:30 pm: about 1 hour 15 minutes, 10 euros plus admission, booking required.
How long do you need, and when should you go?
With the audio guide and 120 works, allow 1.5 to 2 hours. The rooms close at 7:30 pm, so entering at the 6:30 pm last admission means rushing the final chapters. Aim to enter by 5:30 pm.
For smaller crowds, pick a weekday and an early morning slot. On the public holidays when it opens (1 November, 8, 25 and 26 December, 1 and 6 January) and in the last weeks before 10 January 2027, arrive with an online ticket.
